We are seeking a skilled and dependable Diesel Mechanic to join our growing team in Asheville, NC. The ideal candidate will have strong experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered equipment, trucks, trailers, and heavy construction machinery. This position plays a critical role in ensuring fleet reliability, safety compliance, and operational uptime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled service on diesel trucks, heavy equipment, and fleet vehicles
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and software
  • Repair and replace engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, steering components, and fuel systems
  • Conduct DOT inspections and ensure all equipment meets safety and compliance standards
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems, wiring, sensors, and electronic control modules (ECMs)
  • Maintain accurate service records, repair documentation, and parts usage logs
  • Respond to emergency repair needs in the field when necessary
  • Inspect equipment for operational readiness and identify potential mechanical failures proactively
  • Collaborate with operations and fleet management teams to minimize downtime
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Technical school or diesel mechanic certification preferred
  • 3+ years of diesel mechanic experience preferred
  • Experience working on heavy trucks, utility equipment, construction equipment, or fleet vehicles
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diagnostics
  • Experience using OEM diagnostic software and scan tools preferred
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL is a plus
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in varying outdoor conditions
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Preferred Experience

  • CAT, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, International, Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, or Volvo equipment experience
  • Utility construction or heavy civil construction industry experience
  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus
  • Experience maintaining trailers, compressors, generators, and support equipment preferred
