Job Description:
Our client is a leading infrastructure construction organization supporting the natural gas and utility industry, who is seeking an OQ Training Specialist who will be responsible for supporting workforce readiness, regulatory compliance, and operational quality across utility construction operations. This role focuses on executing new hire orientation, Operator Qualification (OQ) training, and field quality audits to ensure employees meet organizational standards and regulatory requirements.
The OQ Training Specialist works closely with field leadership and HSE teams to promote a culture of quality, compliance, and continuous improvement across natural gas, water, and sewer infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- New Hire Orientation: Facilitate and coordinate new hire orientation programs, ensuring employees are trained on policies, procedures, and compliance requirements prior to entering the field
- Operator Qualification (OQ) Training: Administer and track OQ training and evaluations to ensure compliance with DOT regulations and internal standards. Maintain accurate records of certifications and qualifications
- Quality Audits & Inspections: Conduct field audits and inspections to ensure work is performed in accordance with quality standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements
- Compliance Monitoring: Ensure adherence to DOT, OSHA, and applicable quality standards. Identify gaps and implement corrective actions to maintain compliance
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of training records, OQ certifications, and audit results. Prepare reports and communicate findings to leadership
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve quality processes, training programs, and operational execution. Partner with field leadership to drive improvements
- Cross-Functional Support: Collaborate with HSE, operations, and training teams to ensure alignment between safety, quality, and workforce readiness initiatives
Education & Minimum Requirements
- Associate or bachelor's degree in a technical, safety, or engineering-related field preferred
- 5-7 years of experience in utility construction, quality assurance, or training-related roles.
- Experience in natural gas pipeline construction (preferred)
- Working knowledge of Operator Qualification (OQ) programs, 811 locate requirements, and excavation laws
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge of DOT and OSHA regulations
- High attention to detail and documentation accuracy
- Ability to train, coach, and influence field employees
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently in both field and office environments
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead others
- Practical and creative problem-solving skills to improve quality outcomes
- Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced field environment.
